This is the queen of all things spiritual, of healing, and of transformation. If you choose the Queen of the Golden Bough, you are calling on the help of one of the true healing spirits of Faerie. The poor Rox – always ill. Sniffles, aches and pains, a slight temperature – he just can’t gather the energy to help himself but he always has enough energy to get you to help him. He is after all the king and being the king means having servants. Not that he wouldn’t help himself if he only felt up to it, but in the meantime just be a dear and fix him a little something to eat, preferably expensive and time-consuming to make but it’s just the thing to make him feel better and you do want to help him get well don’t you? And would you go out and pick up his dry-cleaning? He would do it himself but he’s not feeling up to it and besides it’s too cold to risk going out and you remember what happened last time, don’t you? But you’ll be fine – a brisk walk is just the thing for you.
Do you know someone like this? This person is a master of manipulation. He can get you to do anything for him because he uses guilt as a finely honed tool. It’s very difficult to say no to someone as needy as this person appears to be, but every once in a while try saying that you just can’t do whatever it is he’s asking of you. This may come as a shock to the Rox – he isn’t used to being denied anything, but it will begin to restore the balance in your relationship. If you recognize yourself in the Rox, think about the reasons you ask people to do things for you that you are perfectly capable of foing. Is it the desire to control a person or a situation, or do you really need help? Combine the Rox with the Speaker of Truth and find the answer for yourself.

A myomancer reads the past, present, and potential of all being in the movements of mice. Myk is particularly fond of field mice, as they are livelier and better fed than church mice. He can learn endless things from the way they twitch their whiskers or hold their tails. He sees hidden information in the patterns of growth and coloration in their fur, the way the wind rumples it, and how they preen themselves.
Little things can tell us a lot. Everything bears messages about the universe around us. Studying the details sometimes enables us to deduce the whole.
The entire universe is one piece, and each fragment of that one Unity reflects and is connected to all the others. The Prince of Shadows is the bad boy of the Faerie Court. Whether it be the Light Court or the Dark Court, they each have their Prince of Shadows. He has great beauty. He is heartless. He is everything we wish for and everything that hurts us the most. Can we have a relationship with this being? Maybe. If we are strong enough or perhaps if we are heartless enough to meet him on his own terms, then yes, we can have a relationship. Will it be intense? Most definitely. Can it be addictive? Certainly. If this prince appears in a reading, ask yourself what it might refer to in your life. It may not be a physical person at all. It may be your state of mind at the moment. This is the faerie of dark despair. She is there in your darkest hour. We know people who have had her tattooed on their backs, and my question was, why would you want dark despair on your back? But then as I thought about it, I realized that she is there as a comfort. She feels despair and lives it with you, she helps you through it because the only thing to do it to go through it and come out the other side, free of that emotion. The little faerie hovering above her is hope. In all despair there is hope. It may be small and may seem insignificant but it is there. Hope is the bright spark, the tiny bit of magic that can turn the tide of despair. Wherever you find the faerie of dark despair, you will also find hope, in the wings of the faerie herself, in her garland of golden flowers. As the sun reaches the darkest shadows, hope crowns despair. Remember that there is hope in any situation. It may not come in the form you are expecting or would wish for, but look for it, and you will find it nonetheless. Have faith that something good can come. By allowing that thought in, the darkness of despair can begin to give way to the light of hope.

The Faerie’s Oracle – Geeeeeooo the Slooow – Cycles of time/Slowness/Waiting/Patience
Geeeeeooo is the Gnome of Slow Processes. How long is it going to take for that water to wear that rock away? Howmuch has that mountain grown (or eroded) in the last millennium? Geeeeeooo is there watching attentively, making certain that things don’t happen too fast, resulting in a slipshod job. It is he who watches the waves slowly encroach on the shore, wearing away the cliffs. Elsewhere, to keep things in balance, he watches certain mountains slowly grow taller.
Geeeeeooo is also the master of the clarification process whereby we let something sit quietly while the impurities slowly settle themselves out, allowing the substance to purify itself in time.
Geeeeeooo doesn’t understand why we rush about so, mission out on the slow changes in the worlds around us. He is amazed at the stress and problems we create for ourselves by doing that. He wonders how we can survive if we don’t sit down and watch the sunrises and sunsets or if we “don’t have time” to enjoy our lives – especially if we are so busy rushing around with the idea that we are making things good for ourselves later but never now.
The thing about Geeeeeooo’s processes is that they all proceed in good order. Fruit ripens on time, grain is ready at harvest time, and the moon and earth circle each other in equitable balance, neither too quickly nor too slowly. These natural processes work well, and in our own lives it is helpful to use them for models, finding the right pace – the pace that allows natural, low-stress growth and and progress and joy. The world isn’t turning any faster, so we might ask ourselves why we are trying to cram more into our days.

We are told that we inevitably grow up, grow old, and die. And we do. At least part of us does. But there is another part of us that, like Peter Pan, stays eternally young, and not just young, but “boy” young. Masculine young. The part of us that wants to seek adventure, live dangerously, live heroically, and die gloriously. In Faerie, the part of us that is the eternal boy can roam free forever. Male of female – we all need to acknowledge the “boy” within us and let him run free. If we do no more than say, “Go fly, have adventures,” we have done enough. When the Boy turns up, take a minute to find the boy inside of you. He may be hiding = boys are good at that = but coax him out into the light, say hello, and let him fly. Resisting the Temptation may be more than you can bear. If you enter Faerie, do you eat the food? Do you follow the beautiful stranger? Do you trade your first-born child for wealth, love, or fame? How do you know when it is safe to give into temptation? Who to trust? Who to believe? Maybe no one, and yet, if you have been looking and listening and are aware of who and what you are meeting, you may be able to make the right choices. Stop and ask your heart what “feels” right. When the Temptation turns up, look closely at it. Ask yourself what is tempting you at the moment that may not be a wise choice. Always in that magic state, between girlhood and womanhood, the Maiden lives in the place where everything is possible. Love and romance are her lifeblood, and where she walks in Faerie romance blossoms and love flowers in her wake. The honey sweetness of first love is always on her breath.
No matter what our age or sex, we must honor the Maiden and acknowlege her in our lives and relationships. It is important to rememer how we felt when we first became aware of romantic love, whether through our own experiences or through books or films, whatever portrayed that first awakening for us.
We become jaded with time and experience. We lock out young emotions away and forget about them. It is important to remember those emotions every once in a while. They will not always be happy memories. First love can be very painful but even the pain of a first love is very different from what we feel as more experienced travellers in the realms of romance.

Heart of Faerie Oracle – Prick Up Your Ears – Look at this lovely long-eared faerie, she’s literally all ears! It is very easy to listen without really hearing and to hear without really understanding. Often things are said that are perceived as hurtful or critical, when perhaps listening more carefully or in a different way would have informed you that wasn’t the intention at all. Rabbits and hares have very sensitive hearing. They jump and start at any unfamiliar noise, running for safety before they see what made the noise in the first place. They literally jump to conclusions before getting the full picture. Now in a rabbit’s case, this is probably wise, since hanging around can often lead to a very short life, but as a human, it is important to take the time to really prick up your ears and listen to what is being said, and not only to what is being said, but to what it actually means. You may be surprised at how often a meaning is quite different from what you first supposed.
